Contrive was formed by twin brothers Paul and Andrew Haug in 1999.

Released self-financed debut ep in 2001 titled Finally, now out of print.

2002 saw the band tour extensively including supports with MAYHEM (Nor) & DESTRUCTION (Ger).

2003 released the self-financed Prosper ep (+ CDRom) to solid reviews abroad.

Lots more touring, sharing stages with SEPULTURA, SOILWORK, and SKINLAB etc.

Late 2004 entered the studio to commence recording the debut album titled The Meaning Unseen, plus securing a support slot with MACHINE HEAD in October.

2005, the self-managed, unsigned band utilised the services of infamous Metal Producer Fredrik Nordstrom in Sweden to mix the album.

Fredrik, known for his impeccable work with ARCH ENEMY, OPETH, DIMMU BORGIR and the like, delivered stunning results that can be heard on the debut album The Meaning Unseen.

2007, they supported STONE SOUR (US-Side band of members of SLIPKNOT)

2009, the band is close to completing pre-production on their forthcoming album set for release in mid-year.

They will embark on a Tour of Bangkok, Thailand in February including a show with PARKWAY DRIVE.

July 2009 the band hit the studio to record their second full length album The Internal Dialogue.

Late 2009 they were personally chosen by members of OPETH to support them on their Australian Tour.

In 2010 Contrive completed their second album titled The Internal Dialogue which was mixed by DEVIN TOWNSEND in Vancouver, Canada. The album is due for release April 2010.

In March 2010 they will tour Australia with DEVIN TOWNSEND PROJECT.

July 2nd the band released their long overdue new album THE INTERNAL DIALOGUE via MGM Distribution.

In August 2010 the band supported TESTAMENT in Sydney on their Australian Tour.

July 2011 did their 1st ever Tour of Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam

January 2012, toured East Coast with the CAVALERA CONSPIRACY.

May 2014 Toured with Swiss Metal Legends CORONER!

Late 2014 3rd album pre-production almost done, recording soon for a early 2015 release.
