Anfitrite - Clitemenestra

Venezuelan symphonic metal band Anfitrite represents the beauty and the power that is modern symphonic metal. Taking inspiration from tales of ancient Greek mythology they infuse their music with a sense of grandeur and history. Their debut album Clitemnestra continues this theme taking its name from the wife and ultimately murderer of Agamemnon.

Following their previous EP Helena de Troya, Anfitrite have grown in stature and confidence. Vocalist Gina Bafile excels in taking the classical demanding components and seamlessly merging them with the keyboard-laden modern metal. Her rich textures and skill imbue Clitemnestra with a sense of majesty that is befitting of their music. ‘’Pandora”, ‘’Achillies” and “The Paris Trial’’ all symphonic metal wonders that twist and turn with their dynamics and deliver in full emotion and storytelling. It is also surprising. ‘Pegasus’ merges Eastern music with blast beats beautifully and excellently. The title track Clitemnestra is another symphonic highlight, the keyboard lines richly accentuating the guitar parts of a track that is a modern metal staple where all musical components merge into a track that soars with its instantly memorable chorus. Final Light (the first single) is classical world music infused with an epic cinematic quality blessed with a great riff and that voice!

Sumptuous, gorgeous and yet heavy and dynamic in equal measure Clitemnestra is bold and audacious, filled with subtleties and some pure metal parts that linger long in the psyche, imbued with history and technical prowess, Clitemnestra delivers a daring debut that delivers on all it promises.
