Australia’s FAKE8 unleash their first statement on the world with the double single ‘PYRO-ASHES’, releasing on Friday 21st August across all streaming platforms. Blending manic vocals, haunting saxophones and grinding riffs, ‘PYRO-ASHES’ establishes the unique outfit as a welcome addition to the current metal landscape.
Mixed and mastered by vocalist/bassist Chris Michael, ‘PYRO-ASHES’ is a fierce introduction to the band’s sound. The two singles, which make up one larger track, see the duo blend the crushing riffs of Meshuggah and the slap bass of Tesseract with intense deathcore-style vocals, with eerie saxophones floating on top of the chaos.
‘We wanted to showcase the saxophone in a different light’, says saxophonist Mika Atkinson. ‘It’s more than just a solo instrument and on these tracks it sounds like it’s heralding the end of the world.’ Alongside the saxophones, the tracks are surprisingly devoid of any guitars. Instead, heavily modified bass guitars and effects pedals were used in lieu of traditional 7 or 8 string guitars to craft the massive tones heard on ‘PYRO-ASHES’.
