On the eve of a very full roster of new albums from major players in the metal and hard rock scene, comes a slew of very gifted bands and musicians that could get overlooked by the Tsunami that is on the horizon. One of my passions in life is to bring new exciting and innovative music to the ears of people who for one reason or another would not normally give it time.

And in Canada’s Boneyard, we have just that. If you Google them you will sadly not find them straight away. But if once you have hit their site, you will find a very professional outfit, which reflects on the band itself. What we have here is a female-fronted metal outfit that bathes in the crimson glory of traditional heavy rock and heavy metal.
From the opening refrains of Fates Warning the sounds of jackboots usher us into some really well-crafted NWOBHM inspired rhymes. This album is a really nice contrast for me as a lover of all music, I often find myself delving into some of the very dark and heavy sides of metal. And bands like Boneyard make for light relief. But don’t take that in a negative way, both frontwoman and guitarist Pamtera and the rest of the band make some seriously heavy metal. It’s not going to break necks and crush skulls but that’s not what this is all about.
What you get with this great underground band is a phenomenal sense of timing and a groove.

It’s been a long time since I have heard a band impart this much musicality. Every track is well though I have to say that it took me back to a time when metal was simple and had a sense of beauty and power. You don’t get a million note solos here. What you get is the sound of dirty Gibson guitars swaggering clean arpeggios layered underneath with swaggering beautiful vocals. This is all underpinned by a very tight and pulse-racing rhythm section.
So Go grab this beer and sweat-soaked denim battle jacket of an album and enjoy a well crafted well-executed album from a bunch of guys and girls who really love their craft and their medium. I found myself singing along to the album after only 2 listens now that’s a good sign of something that can and will get under your skin with minimum effort.
Come on go to your local record store and demand a copy or whatever format you choose. And let’s all celebrate the NEW BLOOD.
