Corpsegrinder – Corpsegrinder (Album Review)

Release Date: February 25th 2022 - Perseverance Music Group

Corpsegrinder

It would strike you as a surprise to see someone so inseparable from a certain entity go and do their thing alone, and so were I when I found out the mighty George Fisher announced the release of his first solo album, and how thrilled were I when I listened to the first single, “Acid Vat”.

As a Cannibal Corpse fan, you’d expect more of the same brutality, the same working formula which has been melting faces for 30+ years, or experimentation such as we’ve seen when he took part in the “Serpentine Dominion” project, but Corpsegrinder went for a more direct way, in the sense that where Cannibal Corpse hid subtility in their walls of sound, Fisher chose the straight forward path, that which relies on efficiency, and rather than intricated rhythm patterns to overwhelm you with aggression, he went for heavy riffing, slam parts at some points, and he throws punches relentlessly, punctuating them here and thereby break parts where he stomps on you with all his might.

The emphasis is clearly put on crushing your skull, and that is one of those albums which make you want to tear your clothes apart and scream your lungs out, all while trying to compete with Corpsegrinder at headbanging, whose voice haunts you throughout the album, as it does in everything he’s taken part in. My highlight of the album would be the crushing “Master of the Longest Night”, which is as catchy as it is brutal. Can’t wait to witness that brutality live.
