DAMPF - The Arrival

Swedish Five Piece Dampf is a piece of Musical Royalty. Led and created by Martin” E-Type” Erikson, Dampf also include members of Bathory and Sabaton. What does this mean? Dampf is the merging of Dark pop with metal where style meets substance.

Musically this is Modern metal with the huge Teutonic riffs that would not be lost at times on a Rammstein record.

It is guitar-driven music with a huge rhythm section that merges with simple clean vocal lines to create something that is both modern and yet memorable, the pop sensibilities are there, but they are subtle and are reminiscent more of Queen’s arrangements.

“The other side is the perfect combination of driving riffs and simple vocals all delivered for maximum effect and features Tommy Johansson of Sabaton “Jerusalem” takes a mere keyboard intro and delivers a huge mid-paced double chug of a song with distinct guitar accents and a stomping rhythm. However, “Goeie Mie” inspired by the serial killer Maria Swanenburg is a true standout. Its disturbing chorus and the perfect combination of melody with metal will have you subconsciously headbanging on first listen and hitting the repeat button.

The Arrival may prove to be divisive amongst purists, but this is metal, at times brutal metal offset by the catchy chorus’ and beautiful keyboard arrangements. It is beautifully crafted, and everything is so well thought out to leave nothing to chance.

The guitar riffs are glorious and the production is excellent. Dismiss this on first listen at your peril, this is strengthening powerful music unique and groovy as hell!
