Perth’s premier monthly event for metal – Hornography – recently underwent a change to begin 2022 with the introduction of a different venue as it’s new home. Convenients, which is situated in the heart of Northbridge in the inner sanctums of the Perth live music and club scene is also a new venue that launched early in 2021 and has quickly become the go to play for live music. Hornography which began in 2018 to help revitalise the metal scene which in recent years has enjoyed a bit of resurgence has definitely found a new home with this place and hopefully ignite a bit of newfound interest in local metal. This first event for the new year saw death metal titans Depravity along with 9 Foot Super Soldier, Concede and Bloodlust put on a fantastic show. Along with prize giveaways and usual stage banter from the promoters, it was another great night for Hornography.

Bloodlust brought the old school heavy metal early in the night, kicking off the night in true metal warrior fashion. Say what you will be about the modern stuff but the old stuff still kicks up some serious muscle in the headbanging department.

Concede bring something a bit different with a more hardcore sound and while it’s a bit of a contrast to some of the other bands on the lineup, they certainly have a groove element that can’t be denied. Heavy and in your face, the 4 piece made it known they can bring the hammer down hard.

9 Foot Super Soldier were certainly one of the highlights of the night, fun and theatrical with that thrash/punk crossover style mixed with a chaotic and humorous performance. They may not have looked the part but it was one of the most metal moments of the night, just pure entertainment.

Depravity probably don’t need much of an intriduction for those that follow the death metal scene in Australia but for those not in the know, these guys pack a serious punch in the extreme metal department. Always on point and in the pocket, tonight was another stellar performance to cap off the first Hornography event for 2022, in a new setting. For those looking for the heavy stuff in Perth, this is the place to go. Next event is February 26th.
