Adelaide alternative metal quartet Rogue Half return with “The Sound Of You“, an energetic second offering from their upcoming EP, ‘The Middle Distance‘, out Friday November 4.
“The Sound Of You” is produced, mixed and mastered by Chris Lalic (Windwaker) and melds energy and bounce with a modern darkness that Rogue Half have grown to call their own. The track is about being stuck in a negative headspace and reminiscing on the person you once were, wishing you could go back. Rogue Half had to adapt to their surroundings in 2021 to pull together their powerful new song.
“This song was a fun one to write,” tells the band. “It’s a song that was created right in the middle of the endless lockdowns during 2021. Every time we planned to get to Melbourne to work with Chris on the EP, either one of our states would enter a lockdown, so this song was basically created entirely over Zoom.”
Leading the way towards their debut EP, “Death Throes” came as the first single, releasing last month. In line with its definition, it’s about the uncomfortable realisation that a relationship, be it romantic or otherwise, has an end in sight. Wall Of Sound premiered the video and commended its, “hard rock sound that sounds leagues ahead of their previously released belters. One spin and you’ll be sold!”
Rogue Half are a four-piece alternative rock and metal outfit made up of vocalist Matt Keal, guitarist Sam Trott, drummer Lenny Fyfe-Sutcliffe and bassist Billy Bourne. The band turned heads with their 2019 single “Sleepless” followed by singles “Bite My Tongue” and “Play Pretend” in 2020.
Triple j and Unearthed jumped on board early on to support the band with airtime on short.fast.loud and Home and Hosed as well as via Rogue Half’s Unearthed page for “Sleepless”. Tommy Faith wrote: “Those guitars sheer through the chorus like a papercut and this is a big song with a big vocal from this Adelaide outfit”, Dave Ruby Howe affirmed it was, “The kind of song that makes you double check the spelling of the word seismic because that’s the best way to describe it” and Declan Bryne agreed with a simple but effective, “Seizmick”.
Rogue Half have crafted an impressive live show which has earned them support slots alongside bands including Thornhill, Belle Haven, Casey, Pridelands, Ocean Sleeper, Wither and Outloved to name a few.
