ACOLYTE – Entropy (Album Review)

I was lead on a treacherous and fantastical journey…

Opening with the track titled Prelude I was hit with big drums, and guitars sounding akin to a Hurdy-Gurdy, straight up cool within the first minute.

Entropy followed with driving guitar and drums, swells of pads, and strong vocals.
My keynotes while listening to the album were a keyboard-solo that took me flying over a prehistoric valley on the back of a pterodactyl, false song-endings, killer guitar-solos, tom work, pensive and compelling piano, and, fills (what time-signature?).
Ending with the track ACCEPTANCE, this album was better appreciated after the second or third play-through.

Acolyte is a 5-piece progressive-metal band originating from Melbourne, Victoria.
Brandon Valentine on Guitars, David Van Pelt on Keyboards and Synthesisers, Jason Grondman on Bass, and Chris Cameron on Drums, bolstered by vocalist Morgan-Leigh Brown, have crafted a plane of tonal aggregate and multi-layered rhythm, each with their own expertise, and all crafting their own space within the sonic field.

Entropy is ACOLYTE‘s 2nd Album release since the debut SHADES OF BLACK in 2016.
They have, since their emergence onto the heavy scene, received nominations for Best Heavy Album (SHADES OF BLACK), Best Live Performance, and been awarded for the Best Music Video (Space & Time). They have supported acts such as 12 Foot Ninja, Jerrico, Sydonia, Leprous, and Voyager, as well as embarking on their own Headlining tours around the country.
