Great guitar work but the Vocals is where it all falls apart for me with this release. This EP is made up of the title track plus 3 extra songs recorded live at the Bloodstock Festival. The guitar solos (and there’s plenty of them) are brilliant but this is not enough to make the tunes sound more than paint by numbers 80’s style British metal.
The vocals of David Bower just grate on me, I think he’s trying to sound evil/foreboding but to me, he just comes across as whiny. The use of the bells at the start of Blasphemy & the master a la AC/DC’s Hells Bells which are used to add to the whole evilness feel again fall short of the mark and the results have just groaned worthy.
If you are a fan of the NWOBHM era then track this down and give it a listen it will most likely be right up your alley. For myself, I actually couldn’t sit through the whole release and it’s only 22 minutes in length!
Overall I think Andy Sneap is a great guitarist and this release gives him a chance to really show off his abilities but the songs do nothing for me.
