Anthrax is a thrash metal band from the USA formed in 1981, releasing (to date) eleven studio albums, seven live albums, numerous singles and music videos, and five compilations. The band, along with Megadeth, Metallica, and Slayer – later known as “The Big 4” – pioneered the thrash metal evolution during the mid to late eighties. Anthrax has received a host of accolades from the media throughout its career, including six Grammy nominations and multiple Gold and Platinum certifications.
July 18th, 2021 marked the band’s forty-year milestone in an incredible career. The celebrations began back in May of 2021, culminating in a global live stream event on July 17th/18th, shot at the Los Angeles soundstage/studio The Den. For over two hours, Anthrax performed a set that read like a greatest hits – twenty-five songs taken from the band’s vast back catalog.
And now, in 2022, the band will release their celebratory show on CD and DVD – ‘XL‘, featuring the entire show, never-before-seen rehearsal footage, and Scott Ian’s New York City “walking tour” pointing out the spots that played a role in Anthrax‘s formation and history.
“even though we were performing in a studio with just the crew there, we played that set like we were in front of 50,000 screaming fans”, said vocalist Joey Belladonna.
