Baest – Justitia (EP Review)

Release Date: May 27th 2022 - Century Media Records

Hitting you with that fat greasy tone, the Danish quintet comes back with another incredibly tasty death metal release in their EP “Justitia”. Collaborating with some notorious extreme metal entities, including the late Trevor Strnad from The Black Dahlia Murder and Sven De Caluwé from the Belgian powerhouse Aborted, Baest is increasingly and steadily establishing itself on the top shelf of death metal.

Tasty dual harmonies, heavy riffing, pounding drums, a low deep growling vocalist, and you’ve got all it takes for an EP that’s going to make fans mosh all summer long during festivals, enough parts to make you bang your head until it bleeds, and enough speed to make you spin in circles in the pits.

Efficient, and technically tight, the album feels like the result of an unholy alliance between Florida’s colorful death metal and Sweden’s greasy, muddy tone, and as elaborate as the artwork is, the music triggers your imagination and takes you on a visual journey where you can picture the notes making their story.

Admirable consistency from the Danish band, looking forward to more.
