Hailing from the east coast of Australia, extreme metal band Beleth releases their debut album, Silent Genesis. Beleth describes their music as having a dark, heavy driving punch, with an element of groove, catchy riffs and guttural vocals.
The first song of Silent Genesis, Thirteenth Spirit gives you an ominous feeling in the best way possible. The horse sounds make you think of the four horsemen of the apocalypse. After this haunting track is the titular track, Silent Genesis. Starting off a song with blast beats is bold and really works for this track. With such an energetic and bold track it’s not hard to know why it’s the titular track.

I was quite surprised that this is Beleth’s debut album as they play with the practised ease and solidarity of playing together for a number of years. With the ability to have their own flavour in a genre that is overrun by bands that sound the same, I’m looking forward to see what they do next.

The song that stands out for me on Silent Genesis is Black Speech, as it starts out slow and builds into a very catchy riff with kick drum blasts accenting the guitar riff. The whole song keeps building on each part until the end that has a searing guitar solo that is quite simple but very effective, making the saying less is more ring true.
For fans of extreme metal and black metal.
