Binkery – Binkin N’Eggs

Binkery - Binkin NEggs

Binkery is an experimental hardcore band from Tasmania and by experimental, they basically mean, you’ve probably never heard anything like this before.

To start off with the positives: musically the band sounds really great (minus the vocals, we’ll get to that later). The music is cool, it’s different, but it all works and flows very well together. Sections of these songs aren’t just massive breakdowns or very repetitive ‘metalcore’ picking. Songs are different from each other but they keep a very unique style throughout. The only improvement that could be made to the music is adding more tempo changes and trying out different time signatures. That would bring the album musically to a completely new level.

Now the negatives, some are obvious and need to point out. Firstly, the presentation. You can’t expect to get a good review with demo quality recordings that aren’t mixed or mastered. Along with the presentation comes the second point and that’s the vocals. I don’t know whether they’re meant to be like this or if it was something to do with the recording process but I can use my fingers on my hands to count all the times the vocals actually work with the music. Either the vocalist should really work on his vocals or the band should just go find someone else because they are really bad.

I’m not even going to bother going into the lyrics, the only thing I’m going to say is that dropping the F-bomb was completely pointless on this album.

The conclusion is this band has potential and the music is really good and interesting – even though it might be a tad repetitive by the end. Still, there is no reason why this band shouldn’t grow into a really powerful music force. They just seriously need to improve their vocals.

Like really, even making an instrumental band right now would be better than leaving them in.
