Airbourne – Boneshaker (Album Review)

Airbourne - Boneshaker

In true Airbourne fashion, the guys come out rearing to go with the opening of the record with the self-titled track, Boneshaker. Though it sounds initially more like a song that’s designed at making bone-shaking music it is more like proclaiming their virility and stamina. They shout “I wanna see you’re crazy inside, so lets Rock’N’Roll” which sparks a smile as they sum what they are all about: playing rock music to get the energy up then satisfying any urges they have. That’s the rock ‘n roll lifestyle that we love to hear about but can only live through them. It’s playful. It’s energetic. It carries the usual style of major guitar chords and characteristic slightly stretched to their limit vocals that make up Airbourne’s sound.

While the overall sound is the usual sound they have there a couple of snippets that express a foray into a different sound.

A refreshing change with some darker tones occurs when we hit Blood in the water with a Megadeth Sweating Bullets-Esque vibe that compliments the shift in the topic as they talk about being eaten by a shark. While the subject matter is darker they still manage to create a song that you have to sing out loud but perhaps as a cautionary tale, you might want to stick to the beach. This album was recorded in Nashville, Tennesee which is why we have some extra country influence on the Burnout the nitro intro.

No hard-rock blues album is complete without songs about relationship trouble and dirty women, which then lead into the more dark territory of war with Weapon of war, which deals with the age-old problem of soldiers being a pawn on the battlefield and doing what they are told to do. But in the end, rock always wins because that’s where we finish up with Rock n Roll for Life because no matter what you got through in life from fin fatalities to femme fatales you can always count on the rock. And these guys are rock n roll and will seemingly never stop.

Though this album is equally as charged as some of the others it doesn’t deviate from the formula that makes them what they are. If you like an album you can just shout along to no matter the topic this will fit the bill.
