Eora/Sydney-based nu-metalcore four-piece Broken Earth are set to release their highly anticipated third single of the year, ‘Come Close To Me – dropping August 12th. The track brings a fresh take on their sound, delving further into the nu-metalcore boyband moniker that has been teased all year, and was produced, mixed, and mastered by Mark Williamson (Inertia, Cenobia, Harroway), contributing atmospheric impact to the melodic anthem
The song kicks off with an 80s synth loop before vocalist Raphael Smith whispers the song title – immediately portraying the intimacy intended for this song – right into the band kicking the song in on a groove, Spiritbox inspired riff. As the first verse kicks in, the band brings the vibe right down to Toto levels of chill, as both Smith and Sebastian Weir trade lead vocals and harmonies across both verses and the anthemic chorus. Highlight of the song being the synth break before the final breakdown, led by Weir’s smooth vocals, showcasing the shared vocal boyband vibe initially hinted at in Shiver and Ready To Talk, brought forward even more on this nu-metalcore ballad
‘Come Close To Me’ is what happens to the central characters after previous single Shiver has set the scene, taking away the bravado and confidence of the protagonist and instead trading that in for vulnerability and emotionality, while also hinting that something about the atmosphere feels almost out of place..
Inspired as much by Stranger Things as well as Backstreet Boys and Spiritbox, Raphael Smith talks about creation process:
“[Come Close To Me] was originally written after watching Stranger Things in 2022 and feeling connected to that dramatic soundtracking of Running Up That Hill – that sense of longing, connection and ready to jump into something with everything was something that at the time I really wanted to tap into – and so is the oldest track in the releases of this year in terms of origins – when I showed it to Seb and we started working together, as soon as we landed on 80s, Backstreet Boys and modern metal it all just fit too perfectly together, and was one of the most natural songs we have written yet ”
Accompanying the release is a street filmed video, shot, directed, and edited by bassist Brad Stokes (Sharptooth Media). The video sees the band playing separately from one another – capturing that lack of connection that the song was envisioning
Known for their intense live presence, the band plan to showcase their new sound and energy supporting Skindred alongside Future Static at the Metro Theatre on September 5th as they start to develop a new level to their reach, jumping on The Core off the release of Ready To Talk, and also recently were made the cover stars of Homegrown and Heavy on Spotify!
