Broken Earth share introspective new single “Covenant”

Broken Earth

Sydney nu-metalcore rising starts Broken Earth release reflective new single Covenant, just in time to welcome it to their live set at Feels Good Festival.

Covenant looks inward and thematically details the process of acknowledging fault and embarking on a road to recovery. Where previous single BREATHE was about removing outside toxicity and abusive behaviours, Covenant talks about working to remove one’s own negative attributes and move on from a version outgrown.

“There have been times in my life where I have hit rock bottom, or had to hard reset,” explains vocalist Raphael Smith. “Whether that’s due to addiction, depression or anxiety, there’s a point I no longer recognise the person in the mirror, and with that comes the sobering realisation of who the people around me have gotten to know and the hell that I have brought along with my darkest moments.”

The music video, streaming now via BVTV, is inspired by demonic horror tales, and sets out to invoke a sense of fear to represent the apprehension and unease that accompanies the initial choice to change. “We wanted to reflect the metaphor of self vs self in the music video, hence the contorted twisting of limbs and deranged aesthetic.”

Once again teaming up with Mark Williamson (Inertia, Closure) on production with mastering by Kris Crummet (Sleeping With Sirens, Dance Gavin Dance), Covenant is the second single released this year from Broken Earth and continues to showcase their sonic evolution and is a testimony to the bands dedication and musical prowess, marking yet another crushing addition to Broken Earth’s destructive repertoire.

The quartet have a handful of upcoming shows to flaunt their new music, including a set at Feels Good Festival at Crowbar Sydney on October 8, joining metalcore monsters Volumes (US), Windwaker, Gravemind and more. Shortly after, the band will celebrate Halloween at an AM//PM Emo Night main supporting Deficit and they’ll join Without Belief in Melbourne on November 3.

Broken Earth is Raphael Smith (vocalist), Brad Stokes (guitarist), Benjamin Robinson (guitarist) and Sebastian Weir (drummer). Forming from the ashes of previous bands, the quartet have connected as Broken Earth and focus their efforts on making music genuine to themselves and their influences.

Their body of work has landed features on Spotify editorial playlists, Wall of Sound, Maniacs, Hysteria Magazine, HEAVY Mag, and more. The band have also performed alongside acts to the likes of Paledusk (JPN), No Bragging Rights (US), Caskets (UK), Diamond ConstructThe Beautiful Monument and Belle Haven to name a few.
