In the wake of the heavy metal explosions of the 80s and 90s, cross-pollination was, and still remains, the best way to introduce new feel into the metal movement.
While there are some metal purists that believe nothing can ever beat the original, I tend to disagree. We are in a golden age where the game has moved towards the refinement and blending of genres, and Terrorizer’s newest release Caustic Attack does just this. The brutal feel of this release is done with absolute precision.
Sandoval’s drumming technique, as always, does not disappoint. The guitar work is very impressive, with even the slower sections gaining additional attention and attack. Vocally it is what you would expect from a grindcore release, but I think this is an area where, despite the inclusion of many different genres in the music, it could afford to branch out and deliver some complexity – and that is me being picky.
In terms of grindcore, this release is really difficult to fault. With Terrorizer’s inclusion of death metal, grind, punk and thrash, one does not have the opportunity to become bored with the release. It just keeps going. Relentlessly crushing with small amounts of melody to tickle your heavy metal pallet.
A cracker of a release that demonstrates how far metal’s refinement has come. Suitable for those who think Slayer was hard, but just not hard enough.
