Crisix – The Pizza EP (EP Review)

Crisix is a Spanish thrash metal band founded in 2008, and “The Pizza EP” is their latest release.

The Spaniards kick in their record in a very old school thrashy fashion, full speed, guns blazing, no compromise and a dazzling banger to open a short 16 minutes release. The EP gives no rest and it keeps the punches coming song after song. In the same vibe, the second track “World Needs Mosh” states the obvious: we’re all in dire need of the return of live music and moshing.

The song has a fair balance between groove and relentless drum beating.

The EP was released as a 16 minutes film throughout which the story of a pizza delivery guy is told, his struggles and miseries, and you can tell the band had fun shooting these moments, as much as the fun they had writing the EP. The release has a kind of a punky interlude, which they called “Chapter 3”, where our Pizza guy gets invaded by raptors. This punchy restless metal release has a consequent pinch of humour, without ever neglecting the technical side of things as some parody bands do.

The EP has an overall old school vibe, and the production follows as it’s very reminiscent of an 80’s Bay Area thrash release.

It definitely puts you in a good mood and puts a smile on your face without losing that pinch of aggression a metal record has to have. You can see that the four Spanish musketeers are experimenting in and out of their comfort zone when you compare this release to their latest full length, which had taken a more modern direction, and that only displays the band’s hunger for music.
