…a heavier and thrashier affair than their previous releases. Nine songs across forty-five minutes, see Divine Weep firmly rooted in the thrash metal genre, adding melodic elements to ensure their music is both infectious and addictive. Opening with the blistering ‘Cold As Metal’, the band are quickly into their stride, bludgeoning the listener with ferocious riffing, leaving no shadow of a doubt that this is a thrash metal attack. Fairly anthemic, ‘Cold As Metal’ has enough melodic intent to place Divine Weep on the same shelf as Annihilator, Flotsam And Jetsam and Death Angel. Powering on with the high-velocity speedster ‘Journeyman’, Divine Weep blow away the cobwebs with a neck breaker of a headbanger. Fast and furious just doesn’t do it justice – ‘Journeyman’ is a breathless barrage of ferocity.
With no let-up in ether pace or ferocity, ‘Firestone’ blazes a trail of fire as it scorches the Earth it scurries over. The opening triple salvo has been explosive and immediate, the pace phenomenal, and the headbang ability right off the fucking scale. Oh, this is good, very good…‘Riders Of Navia’ opens in a slower vein than what has gone before – a bit like the direction Metallica took thrash metal with their self titled “black” album. ‘Riders Of Navia’ is heavy, mid-tempo melodic thrash metal with a touch of power balladry about it – a brief respite from the breathless pace… Brief indeed, for the electrifying pace makes an emphatic return with the highly aggressive ‘The Screaming Skull Of Silence’. The best song on the album so far, ‘The Screaming Skull Of Silence’ dishes out a savage barrage of pummeling thrash that may leave a few bruises on some listeners.
At over seven minutes in length, ‘Walking (Through Debris Of Nations)’ is the longest song on the album, and is an epic, mid-paced thrasher in the vein of Megadeth – heavy and thundering. ‘Walking (Through Debris Of Nations)’ keeps your attention from start to finish, and is also mildly aggressive yet melodic, all at the same time. ‘Die Gelassenheit’ is a one and a half minute mellow and menacing spoken word passage, acting as an intro to the explosive and most brutal offering, ‘Mirdea Lake’. Swinging between brutal and melodic, ‘Mirdea Lake’ has a dual identity, thrashing hard and then thrashing light – a meandering journey through the bands chosen genre. The album ends with the title song ‘The Omega Man’ – a superbly fast-paced avalanche of headbanging thrash. The blistering pace is phenomenal, the chorus break sing-along able, and ‘The Omega Man’ (the song) brings the curtain down on ‘The Omega Man’ (the album) in emphatic style.
Overall, a thrash-tastic album of fast and mid-paced melodic thrash to get the pulse racing.
