This one is interesting. “Dusk” is a 3 piece band from Karachi, Pakistan. Internationally Pakistan would not known for metal music. In fact in those places, metal would be sort of discouraged and thus is rare. In 2022 the band released an 8-track album titled “The Imaginary Dead”.
The album begins with a pleasant doomy wall of sound. The easiest way to describe it is – it’s a bulldozer coming at you. Genre wise this has “doom” written all over it. We can clearly hear some great black metal influences. The songs go from fast to slow and vice verse. They’ve really mixed it up. The clean chanting definitely gives the songs a nostalgic taste and a twist.
The ambience in this album is incredible. A lot of creativity and ethnic instruments have been used. I can even hear a saxophone in “Monochronically reimagined”. So far this album is great!
The boys can certainly play. Apart from the atmospheric rhythm sections, we can also hear some cool guitar solos. The vocals vary from true black metal forest screams to confident deep growls. We can also hear a lot of clean vocals and chanting here and there. There are even some interesting female guests in quite a few songs. The chanting in “Deconstructing Desire” almost reminds us of Tibet, but we should make no mistake – this is Pakistani/Indian chanting.
We can also hear some interesting acoustic guitar solos in “deconstructing desire”.
Production wise this still sounds like something from the 1990s but the songs are good so it doesn’t matter as much. Although this will not impress you in terms of guitar tone and production, clearly we can this album is a work of great art and the boys and girls have put in a solid effort to make something that will be remembered and appreciated for its creativity, darkness and atmosphere. This is a dark-themed album that goes deep into the human psyche.
