“The Calm Before The Storm” was written by the original lineup of Ethereal Realm in 2020. Being a longish track, this was always reserved for whenever we played longer sets over the past few years. TNT’s vision from the start, when he wrote the lyrics, was to include female guest vocals, serving as a duet track and standing on its own when compared to any of the Realm’s other tracks. Since then he’s been on the lookout for someone to help fulfill this role and vision. That person came in the form of Cassie Monkerud, a friend that TNT made while gigging in the local scene. Cassie is an incredibly talented vocalist and she showcases this in spades in her own bands “Antonamasia” & “War Rages Within”. Once Cassie said yes, we knew releasing this as a single since the launch of our EP “Enter the Realm” was the way to go.
Singer TNT about the song- “This is an epic metal ballad with several ebbs and flows, showcasing the calmer side of the band along with their louder (storm) side. Being over 8 min, definitely won’t be heard on the radio anytime soon.”
Rob the Drummer adds- “We’ve been sitting on this gem for years, finally glad to have it out to the people! Thanks to everyone involved for being so great to work with.”
Leon about the song “Have you noticed that before a very big disaster, a very strong storm, an end, there is an absolute calm? Nothing is heard, no leaves are moved, no one speaks. Everything seems to be still for a short period of time – the greater the disaster, the longer the period of time. And this silence hides within it all the emotions that are ready to explode.
That’s what this song is about.”
