EVA UNDER FIRE - LOVE, DRUGS & MISERY: DELUXE EDITION

Eva Under Fire is a Heavy Rock band from Detroit, Michigan. I had a bit of a snoop around their website and social media pages but couldn’t see a bio on any of their pages. According to Wikipedia, the band consists of lead vocalist Eva Marie, guitarists Rob Lyberg and Chris Slapnik, bassist Ed Gawlik, and drummer Dave Miller II. Unbeknown to what genre this band fell into, I selected it from a review list, assuming it might have been Symphonic Metal…….I was a bit surprised when it wasn’t and was even more surprised that it was on a metal review list, yet I’m always up for discovering new music. EVA UNDER FIRE DELUXE EDITION has a whopping 26 tracks, a few of these are featuring guest musicians, Spencer Charnas of Ice Nine Kills, From Ashes to New, Johnathan Dorr of Ego Kill Talent and Cory Marks. Out of the 26, 14 of these are bonus tracks, some of which are Noise Machine Remixes. Very generous in my opinion, hence the name, deluxe edition.

After listening to all 26 of these songs over and over again, I can honestly say that this album is not only produced to an exceptional standard but possibly every song here could quite easily be played on any mainstream radio station. It’s far from the underground. Loaded with lyrical hooks and catchy upbeat melody lines, though a little predictable at times, which is often the case with any pop genre, any one of these tracks could be a big commercial hit.

Overall, Eva Under Fire has a very familiar quality. The music is heavy but, in a fun, hard rock way that tinkers on the edge of country rock and pop rock. Eva’s vocals remind me a little of Christina Aquilera. A strong, beautiful richness that marries superbly with her musical counterparts.

It’s interesting to hear the inclusion of U2’s, With or Without You. A ballsy move covering another artist on an album; however, their rendition works beautifully in Eva style as if it was written for them all along.

If I’m being totally honest, I can’t say that I love this style of music, no disrespect intended as it’s all a little safe sounding for a think outside the box mind. However, I do appreciate talent when I hear it and think they have achieved a very squeaky clean, perfect little commercial nugget, every record label’s dream. I did enjoy the acoustic version of the first track on the album titled Blow, It is always nice to hear a song created with a different perspective. Stand out tracks, Unstoppable, Give Me a Reason and Shot through the Heart.

It’s an easy listen.
