EWIGKEIT – Depopulate (EP Review)

Without even pressing play it’s obvious from the name and album art that this record may be Covid related. On a personal level, this hasn’t been my favorite lyrical topic when I’ve been listening to new music and only appreciated it (mostly because of the tongue-in-cheek King Parrot hilarity) when they released 2020’s EP – kick up a stink.

Music-wise it has a Megadeth divided by Black Metal kind of sound. The vocals are a lot more black metal than your o’l Dave Mustaine vox but something about the way they are delivered rhythmically and possibly the Vocal Reverb and how it’s arranged with the music makes me draw the similarity.

With the music behind the vocal, I would have to say it follows a very similar formula to the vocals.

I’m a supporter of people expressing their beliefs but from a mass appeal point of view, I feel the lyrical themes of this record might divide listeners.

If you like:  Riffs & Machine gun Double kicks but aren’t put off by Covid 19 related content or bias then you’ll definitely find something to like about this group.

Haters be like:  Being an EP completely based on the pandemic and the lyrist beliefs, people who don’t parallel those beliefs may find it hard to appreciate the other elements of the songwriting.
