When I heard Perth finally had its very own Dio tribute, I was more than ecstatic. I hate driving to the city especially at night partly because my night vision sucks and partly because of the whole parking situation. Anyway, this was one show I wasn’t going to miss. Arriving late through an impressively crowded Amplifier bar….wait i recognize that keyboard/synth intro… Holy Shit that’s Dio! They had started already. All hair but nonetheless provocative to the eye, Julia laced in fishnets and leather with a set of pipes pretty damn equivalent to the great man they were there to give tribute to. Tarot Woman, what an opener. The very infamous and beautiful Nikki Dagostino drew the eyes of every beholder as we all stood in awe and sang along.
A very impressive first performance, the guys in the band were equally as talented, Gary Stevenson the steady heartbeat hidden away behind the rest of the band yet driving them forward along with Cameron Daw’s (Silent Knight) faultless bass playing and the guitarist (I didn’t know his name) but was impressive all the same. ‘We Rock’ got the crowd pumping, all punters fists in the air, horns up, chanting in unison.
Finishing the set with ‘Heaven and Hell’…I wished they would play longer…reminiscent of the night I saw Dio play here in Perth with Heaven and Hell.
I’ll be keeping an ear out for Tarot Woman, looking forward to any future shows they have lined up. If you didn’t go see them…you missed out!
