A musical project seeping from the brain of mastermind and frontman Jon Von Cannibale as an ode to death, decay and cannibalism, Gorotica has awoken from the grave with a sordid hunger for mixing death metal, grindcore and elements of hardcore into one monstrous entity. Their debut album “Morbid Menagerie” is due for release 28 October and to announce their arrival the band presents a horrific first single, “At The Gates Of The Necropolis” as an hors d’oeuvre for the main course.
The first single “At The Gates Of The Necropolis” sets the flavour of the album, showcasing the key elements of the band’s sound. Death metal guitar riffs and tremolo-picked leads pave the way with a nod to the Swedeath scene, creating a frantic pace and epic album opener. Complete with hyperblasting snares and guttural vocal exertions, the song grinds its way through a concise one minute and fifty second runtime without coming up for air, before finishing with a punctuated closing remark, “I am one with the dead”.
“Morbid Menagerie” presents 39 minutes of relentless deathgrind obsessed with gore, violence and mutilation. Fronted with guttural vocals, hardcore barks and banshee screams spewing lyrics full of distasteful depictions of desecration and tongue in cheek funeral humour, and backed by a festering wall of chainsaw guitars, pulverising bass and demolishing drums, Gorotica will leave you bound, broken and begging for more.
