Gravespawn – The Elder Darkness (Album Review)

Gravespawn’s ‘The Elder Darkness’ is a technical, rhythmic and dark album. The first track is The Primordial Dynasty. This track sets the tone of the entire album and reignites the black flame, rarely seen since the first wave of black metal in the late ’80s and ’90s.

The second, third, fourth and fifth tracks are: Hexenturm, Sons of Mars, Curse of Ruins and Cocytus Winds Ascend. The album emerges as a colossus in the contemporary black metal community.

Gravespawn is a band to remember due to its capacity to produce good quality music at a rapid rate. ‘The Elder Darkness’ is, of course, the first of two albums released in 2020, thus far.

The remaining tracks on the album are: The Dreadful Eye, Kingdom of Cruelty, Barbarian Misanthropy and Die by the Sword. I believe the Kingdom of Cruelty is the best song on the album due to its catchy riffs, technical drumming and erring through authentically dark undertone.

Overall, this is a very solid album. If you enjoy Emperor, Carpathian Forest and Dimmu Borgir, then you will enjoy ‘The Elder Darkness’ by Gravespawn.
