Ethereal Kingdoms – Hollow Mirror (Album Review)

Hollow Mirror is the debut album of the Danish band Ethereal Kingdoms from Denmark. Ethereal Kingdoms is a theatrical symphonic metal band. This record is in words of the band ‘a collection of ghost stories. The theatrical aspect and style of Ethereal Kingdoms are very original and interesting.

First of all, if you’re a listener of symphonic metal you gonna love this album.

The work behind this record is very good and quite impressive; instrumental work and melodies feel like you’re really living a theatrical illusion. Nostalgic, soft and epic tones to very deep, dark dissonances to making it an immerse experience into a new universe. The orchestrations and classical solos mix almost into a fusion of power and dreaming, everything is where it’s supposed to, and sounds perfect.

The mixing work is very well done.

Vocals into this record deserve applause. Those vocal choirs are epic, sometimes it goes from really high notes to wild desperate screams into a theatrical way. The lead singer’s voice is just so soft and beautiful with that inspiring wide range of harmony’s, musical emotion and feeling. I keep listening to it all day; it is very passionate and inspirational.

The lyrical work doesn’t get behind either. The stories are really impressive from passionate moods to unexpected turns that put this record in a higher place. Embrace me, Heartchamber and Silent Dance, deserve listening for a hundred times. Ashes Within is my favourite song!

This album in one word: Amazing, considering this is a debut album!
