Animistic – Incarnate (EP Review)

Animistic - Incarnate

Incarnate is the name of the five-track EP from Perth’s death metal band Animistic.

First up let me tell you that if you like death metal you are in for a real treat.

The opening track Honour Amongst Snakes is absolutely brilliant, with crushing riffs from Jarod Callow and a deep, down in the depths of hell, planet smashing drums and bass provided by Dusan Sekerac and Tristram Fini.

A truly great piece of death metal music.
If you think Honour Amongst Snakes is to be the only standout track of this EP, then you would be incorrect, as the intensity and overall heaviness of this album never let up. Cam McDougall’s death growl vocals are menacing and powerful and are further sonic evidence of just how polished this band and its EP Incarnate really are.

To ensure repeat listens and playability there is certainly a nice thick smear of groove throughout, with plenty of tempo changes whilst staying comfortably within the realms of the genre.

I think one of the main reasons I enjoyed this album so much is that Animistic has given you everything you would expect and love from a classic death metal record while making it new and fresh so that it doesn’t sound like everyone else. The production quality and the clarity of all the components are ultra-slick, meaning playing this album loud only increases the enjoyment.

With an EP release, this good my only negative would be is that there are only five songs and it’s not a full album as it finishes all too quickly!
This is an outstanding well-produced collection of heavy metal music and fans of this genre will instantly fall in love with Animistic and their EP Incarnate.
