Power metal act Serious Black are back with a vengeance with a brand new album in 2022. “Vengeance Is Mine” is slated for a release on February 25, 2022 through AFM Records and will also mark the debut of Serious Black’s new vocalist Nikola Mijic. With his powerful voice and expressive timbre, guitarist Dominik Sebastian’s rapid riffs and hooks, drummer Ramy Ali’s driving grooves and bassist Mario Lochert’s diverse songwriting, Vengeance Is Mine has turned into a prime example of a deeply melodic yet dynamic metal album!

We talk to guitarist Dominic Sebastian about the new album and how a change in a vocalist came about.

On recording during covid and the impact it had:

Dominic: It worked out perfectly because we work like this, there’s no change for us. Everybody has their home studio or a real studio and everyone recorded at home, I did my guitar stuff all at home and then we just did the drums, bass and vocal recording at the Serious Black studios near Munich so it was no different to our other recordings before.

On the comparisons of the new album to previous stuff and how the band went back to their metal roots:

Dominic: There’s quite a big difference to all the other stuff except for our debut “As Daylight Breaks” because back then in those times it was the idea of a real band where everyone brings in their own ideas and we’re working together. It was the main idea to create this band and this only happened on As Daylight Breaks. On this album we wanted to go back to the main idea, first to do metal again, power metal if you want to call it and then to work together.

On the change of vocalists with Nikola Mijic now joining the band:

Dominic: On the last recordings it was very difficult to work with Urban [Breed, ex-vocalist] because he didn’t deliver his vocal lines in time and he didn’t reach out to us or the record company as well. So he just disappeared, didn’t give a shit about what we were doing and on tour the whole fuck it all attitude increased. We got questions from magazines and other business partners, they asked us what’s up with Serious Black. Urban had posted on Facebook that he’s out of Serious Black so it was clear that it wasn’t possible to ever work with him again and the reason why we had to search for a new singer.
