Overpowering, obscurity, re-creation, beginning of a new era… All of these come to mind when you listen to Drivdals EP titles Leve. These black metal bands can sometimes sound quite generic, Drivdal is definitely not one of them. They have unhatched their very own unique niche in the grand scheme of the black metal genre. Still within the elements, that have instead of taken the route of atmospheric and concentrated more on the chaotic aura of angst and power.
The guitars have a strange blend of death/black but with a slight influence of a once recognised popular sound of thrashy mainstream. The way in which it is presented is dooms style riff configuration and dark lurky downward spiral shifted sounds. Very well crafted and nicely strung together with the dark omnibus bass.

Dropped down low for a deep full-sounding attack, the bass brings much needed and much-appreciated darkness to the once original black metal sound. Constructed in sequence with the guitars it really sends a message to you stating that this is an awesome transformation and spin from the traditional genre.
Drums are powerful and hard-hitting. With blasts to some otherwise obscure patterns. The drummer has created a well defined and we’ll structured pace, setting the EPs tone as an epic example as to what you can accomplish if you are creative enough. The drummer has somewhat steered these tracks into a league of their own. Very well out together.
The vocals.. absolutely brutal! Highs, lows, almost death in some areas but still keeps to the traditional midway section or raw and full of power. The technical work and practice that have gone into mastering these vocals have paid off massively.
Altogether Drivdal has created their own blend of black metal and it is very welcoming to hear. They are going to push barriers and change a landscape! Brilliant EP and will be watching for more.
