Fresh Melbourne hardcore outfit HEAVENSGATE release their furious sophomore single “SHEMOVESLIKETHUNDER” via Greyscale Records in partnership with 1126 Records.
“SHEMOVESLIKETHUNDER” is the second single to be released by the band following their visceral debut “CHEMICAL HEAVEN”. The track is a personal song written in reflection of a past relationship. Binding hard hitting drums and aggressive low tuned guitars, the single follows on narratively from the band’s debut.
Vocalist Nazareth Tharratt shares that the song is about “the experience of suffering through drug addiction and self-destructive habits as a coping mechanism, whilst also having a lover in a fragile state who desperately looks to you for support, comfort and stability whilst they struggle through their own mental health issues. The lyrics are a personal acknowledgment of faults and regrets, poured into an open letter.”
Enlisting the help of studio member and label-mate, Joshua Ang (Pincer+) who co-wrote and assisted in production on the band’s debut, “SHEMOVESLIKETHUNDER” also boasts metal masterminds Erik Bickerstaffe (Loathe) for drum production and writing as well as Buster Odeholm of Odeholm Audio (Humanity’s Last Breath, Vildhjarta, Sworn In) for the mix and master.
As with their debut, the video credits Oliver Clark and Jack Fontes of DUNELABS (Pincer+, Elision) with directing, editing and videography. This time centred around a palatial setting, splicing between swirling fish eye shots of the band and blurry images of vocalist Tharrett.
Emerging from Melbourne, HEAVENSGATE made their statement with debut single “CHEMICAL HEAVEN” along with the announcement of their signing to independent Australian record label, Greyscale Records, in partnership with 1126 Records for North and South America. “CHEMICAL HEAVEN” has seen play on triple j The Racket and has gathered nearly 30,000 digital streams just a few weeks since release.
HEAVENSGATE have laid solid foundations with their intensely emotional first single, introducing themselves as a force to be reckoned with. The band combine their experiences with diversity and culture as well as their passion for exploring and shining a light on mental health with impassioned musicianship to build anticipation for the quintet’s future.
