Bane Of Bedlam – Monument Of Horror (Album Review)

Bane Of Bedlam - Monument Of Horror

My first listen to this album brought me back to my teenage years when I first introduced myself to Thrash Metal.

Bane of Bedlam describe themselves as death thrash and I would tend to agree with that description. The four-piece outfit featuring the vocals from Brad Parker I can only assume the guitarist is his brother ( apologies if not ) Chris Parker, Glen Trayhern on drums finally Nick Walker on bass, formally of Brisbane now calling Melbourne home.

This album has all the thrash elements you come to expect with the genre, the tight ass picking of the guitars, brutality of the double kicks of the drums, a bass sound that took me back to early Testament days, and vocals that reminded me in parts of Randy Blythe from Lamb of God.

Blistering dual guitar parts and solos from Dean Wells, I really loved the solo in “Atrocity Devine” the hammer on’s were cool as. I can imagine the circle pits created in “Vultures of War”, the song is virtually made for it. Torture” made me headbang like a kid again, minus the hair (time can be cruel to some).

The creativity from the lads is telling in the length of the songs, very generous helpings of thrashing metal goodness with the shortest song coming in at 4:39 to the longest in 7:15

The cover artwork is awesome done by Marco Hasman. It kind of reminded me of King Diamond type of artwork, the midnight mysterious kind of thing would make a cool poster.

Personally, I thought this album is cool, typing a review was difficult because I couldn’t sit still from the clean guitar intro for the opening track “Woken by the Horde” then comes the thrash quickly and doesn’t stop until the final song title track “Monument of Horror”. With 8 tracks in total, this death-thrash has me excited, you would think the genre has seen it all by now but Bane of Bedlam keeps the originality coming. I would love to see them live. I reckon if they perform as well on stage as the album is, it would be a show well worth seeing. Great album from the lads, can’t wait to hear the next installment \m/.
