Naugrim - Adversity

If you want to listen to a modern Australian metal band, then the “Adversity” EP of Naugrim is a perfect choice.

Let’s take time to look at the cover. It is a beautiful painting that has to represent what “adversity” means. Despite the definition of “adversity” is unpleasant, the drawing is pure art. Somehow, the red sky, pointed mountains and what seems to be an agitated ocean, it might produce a feeling of peace.

A warm welcome gives Naugrim with “Destroyer”. Just a little taste of the raging power that the EP has. Hear the astonishing drumming of Mal McManus and an excellent controlled growl by Greg McManus.

“Severed” starts before our brains can process the first song. Groove is powerful in this one, especially in the building and breakdown. Stunning riffs and solos are played by guitarists Matt Perry and Luke Boyd.

With a nice progression and structure, “Avolition” starts with a chill vibe. The blast beat, solo, double guitar, growl and a towering bass by Tom Slash makes this song absolutely satisfying. The last seconds of this song is an epic conclusion.

“Accursed” has a slow beginning, but stills heavy. Another memorable breakdown shows that this band can unleash chaos. Death Metal influenced track uses a moment of silence as a powerful weapon.

Do not go anywhere, because “From the Ashses” is the fifth and final track of this EP. The energy of these songs sends us to another dimension. An epic ending concludes 20 minutes of a frenetic EP whose musicians’ ambitions can be heard at all times.

Naugrim delivers us a dynamic range of sound and a flexible Metalcore with positive message in the lyrics that encourages you to have more self-esteem and strength when dealing with surrender, depression and isolation, also they are a good counsellor to overcome addiction and substance abuse.
