Me And That Man – New Man, New Songs, Same Shit. Vol 1. (Album Review)

In my eyes, ears and central nervous system, Nergal (aka Adam Darski) is one of the most creative people in the metal scene. His liaison with this second album from the Dark Country Blues Goth Rock outfit Me And That Man just proves he is a steaming hot LEGEND!

Released at the end of March 2020 via Napalm Records, after their first explosion into our ears with Songs of Love & Death, the latest album is a wonderful collaboration with many other artists – showing not only that New Man, New Songs, Same Shit Vol. 1  is again a great contrast to Behemoth (who are epic in their own right) & why the hell not!? A  bit of sexy Spaghetti Goth Rock reminiscent of Fields of the Nephilim can only make an old Metalhead Swampy happy right?

Track by track starting with –

  1. Run With the Devil – blast out a foot-tapping traditional rock n roll with sax solo & clapping like a Stooges song, thus begins the star-spangled cast featuring on vocals Jørgen Munkeby (from Norwegian band Shining)

Next up is –

  1. Coming Home – featuring more lovely Norwegians with Sivert Hoyem (from Madrugada )
  2. Burning Churches – featuring Mat McNerney (Grave Pleasures) – Nick Cave similarities with chant-like group vocals
  3. By The River – featuring Ihsahn (Emperor) – like a dirty country strip tease tune, with a guitar solo that just makes my clothes just fall off listening to it – HOT!
  4. Mestwo – now throw in a song in Polish about bravery
  5. Surrender – featuring Anders Landelius (Dead Soul) & Rob Caggiano (Volbeat) – chanting soulful duet similar to Zeal & Ardor which is another wonderful twist on this musical adventure
  6. Deep Down South – featuring husband & wife duo Johanna Sadonis (Lucifer) & Nicke Andersson (Lucifer, Entombed) – with banjo, harmonica & a love song containing ball chopping & heartbreaking. What all good marriages are made of?
  7. Man of the Cross – featuring Jerome Reuter (Rome), with delicious velvet vocals reminiscent of Peter Steele of Type O Negative
  8. You Will Be Mine – featuring Matt Heafy (Trivium) – a death-dealing love song
  9. How Come? Featuring Corey Taylor (Slipnot), Rob Caggiano (Volbeat) & Brent Hinds (Mastodon)
  10. Confession – featuring Niklas Kvarforth (Shining) completes the Master number of this album.

After all that name dropping I am spent, but I HIGHLY recommend you get this on your regular playlist and check out their first album whilst you’re there. A beautiful diversity of amazing talent in one album. I would say I have favourites but they are all crackers.
