In this Thrashville special, we talk to two members from the Melbourne black metal act Hybrid Nightmares, in an off-the-cuff backstage chat that followed their performance at Thrashville.
Metal-Roos: You guys were so good live.
Hybrid Nightmares: Thrashville was a fantastic experience. We love it. We’ve done a little bit of media tonight, and we’ve been saying how great it is to be able to support regional creatives all over the country. We try to do as many regional shows as we can, because we enjoy it.
Metal-Roos: Have you guys had much success overseas, or any opportunities to expand your sound across language barriers?
Hybrid Nightmares: No, but we’re not having any issues. We’ve had three invitations to go to Southeast Asia. It just has to work for everybody.
Metal-Roos: What’s coming up this year for Hybrid Nightmares?
Hybrid Nightmares: In Melbourne later in July we’re playing Black Planet festival [on July 25] alongside The Amenta and Mammon’s Throne.
Metal-Roos: I remember there being quite a supportive scene in Melbourne.
Hybrid Nightmares: It’s extremely creative there because people are informed and grateful. Every day of the week, you’ll find something to see there. Before we go, I’d like to say, please continue supporting regional creatives in Australia, and support local artists. It’s really important that communities band together [against threats to the arts], such as negative use of AI. Please support creatives in any capacity you can. Even if you’ve enjoyed a good set, buy some merch, and do whatever’s within your means to support people. We’ll continue doing whatever we can to bring you joy. So, educate yourself and your friends to fight the power, because we are all we have.
