Anonymous, nameless and faceless is the new Australin Collective known only as Nyctalor formed in 2025. Their debut release is the EP known as the Collapse, a deconstruction of Death Doom and black metal into its most primordial form, unrelenting and unapologetic.
Built around 2 lengthy compositions, “The Snares” and “The Harrowing” Nyctalor create music with an impending sense of inevitability, it is dense cloying and claustrophobic, A thick malignant mass that is all consuming and encompassing and the result is some of the heaviest music to assault the senses. Fully indulging in the pain and torment from doom that is completed by the harsh bleakness of its blackened brethren. It is an inescapable descent into chaos, the slow sections painfully slow (that conjure the splendour of early Disembowelment), the moments of melody are bult around huge monolithic riffs and rhythms, the varied and multiple vocal attack recalling rebirth through decay, the literal destruction of the old and the violent birth of the new as expressed through bursts of speed that is raw and unfiltered.
The Collapse is a mere twenty minutes, yet it is a fully formed declaration of ideals that are as contradictory as they are profound, it is the first chapter in an excursion of transformation and the definition of absence where matter and memory literally collapse. It is a presence that is undefinable as it is overwhelming, shrouded in darkness and malevolence. The focus is on the work and not the individual and Nyctalor have succeeded in creating something that questions our very existence and redefines the expression of extreme music.
