On My Command is a heavy metal band from Australia formed in 2016, releasing three albums to date – ‘Apparitions’ (2018), ‘Prey’ (2021), and ‘Conquer’ (2025).
Founded by Sean Mackay (vocals, guitars, bass), On My Command again features session drummer James Knoerl, the bands new album a thirty six minute gallop of thrash inspired heavy metal with immense power and drive – ‘The Thunder King’ moving stealthily outta the gate across the first twenty seconds or so, before roaring through the gears to charge off at high speed, the iconic metal gallop very much in full flight! The band are hammering the ground hard here, nearby walls wobbling and buildings shaking under the immense force oozing from ‘The Thunder King’ – On My Command maintaining the opener’s momentum and attention-grabbing intensity by launching headlong into the much thrashier ‘Burning Desire’. Straddling the territorial border between thrash and traditional metal, ‘Burning Desire’ is a rough and tough metaller that’ll rock the head of every listener extremely hard! Not fast – just hard, ‘Conquer’, forging ahead with an outstanding pace courtesy of the speedster ‘Gateways’, the rate of headbanging moving up a few notches! The intensity of the album is just getting stronger and stronger, On My Command commanding the airways with total authority and aplomb, the albums opening threesome a tremendous romp of head-turning heavy metal.
A sumptuous start to the band’s third album, On My Command marches on with a touch of groove metal in the shape of ‘By This Sign’ – a bolder, brasher atmosphere descending upon the album as the band roars through the gears to adopt a tempo-changing mentality! And the chorus break has rabble-rousing anthem written all over it, with every listener, fan, follower and concertgoer raising their fists high in the air to salute the band! And with an electrifying turn of speed, ‘Shoulders Of Giants’ accelerates furiously outta the blocks, the band bringing a touch of heavy/power metal to the fore – the level of head bang ability shooting right through the fucking roof! ‘Conquer’ has been all-conquering since it began, dominating everyone’s attention and not letting ’em go, ‘You Are Beaten’ showcases every style of metal the band has in their vast arsenal! The heaviest and thrashiest song heard so far, ‘You Are Beaten’ is gonna “do exactly what it says on the tin” and beat every listener, metaller, mosher and thrasher into submission with a savage barrage of unforgiving heavy metal.
Four years ago, I recommended ‘Prey’ as a terrific slice of thrashy, power-come-heavy metal, and I have no qualms at all recommending ‘Conquer’ for exactly the same reason, with just one slight difference – Conquer’ is a bigger, heavier slice than ‘Prey’. So get your big forks out readers, and let’s carry on devouring On My Command’s third album – ‘Hall Of Mirrors’ picking up speed to assume the traditional metal gallop once more, the band still firmly rooted on the bridge between the thrash and heavy metal genres, their music appealing to a very wide array of fans! Fans whose smiles have been a mile wide since the album began, are just gonna get wider as ‘Phantasm’ enters the fray with a little of the American muscular style of metal layered all over it – think legendary metallers W.A.S.P. during their formative years and you’ll see, or rather hear what I mean. And bringing ‘Conquer’ to a close is the shortest song on offer, ‘The Final Battle’ clocking in at less than three minutes in length – and what a speed it is too! The band are red hot for the album’s furious finale, ‘The Final Battle’, shuddering the ground On My Command hurtle over, every head banger everywhere going off like a frog in a sock!
Overall, a breathless barrage of thrash-fuelled heavy metal, totally addictive with an immense level of head-bang ability.
