Sodom – Partisan (EP Review)

For many metalheads who grew up in the late 80s and 90s, there was a certain progressive thrash metal feel to the air that burrowed its way into our collective consciousness.

There is no known cure for it, but symptoms can be treated with frequent doses of thrash metal, and Sodom’s recent EP release is just what the doctor ordered. These German thrash metal veterans have released this fresh EP of musical goodness that tickles my nostalgic love for thrash metal. And with a career as long as Sodom’s is it great to hear that at this late stage they are still releasing tracks of unapologetically pure thrash metal.

Everything is as you would expect – guitars are on point, the vocals are unrelenting and there is even a cleaner interlude reminiscent of 2016’s Decision Day. My only gripe here would be the drums are a little too formulaic, but I’m sure this too will be addressed in time. The truly amazing thing here is the live version of ‘Tired and Red’, taken from their 1989 album Agent Orange, this track stands up to the new tracks of the EP; further cementing Sodom’s legacy. Overall, this EP leaves you wanting more.
