Purenvy – Sweet Poison (Single Review)

Release Date: August 05th 2022 - Independent

PURENVY - Sweet Poison

PURENVY is a thrash metal band from Australia formed in 2006 releasing two albums to date – ‘As The Light Fades’ (2013), and ‘Redemption’ (2018). The band refuses to bow down to pigeonholing, blending together elements of thrash, speed, and the iconic NWOBHM…

…to create an exhilarating sound that crushes and kills, yet is melodic and catchy! Over the years PURENVY has performed at many festivals in their home country – Steel Assassins, Thrashville, and Metal Alliance to name just a few. And with an appearance at Brisbane’s Shredfest, along with a hometown show at The Newy Hotel in Newcastle to celebrate the release of their new single ‘Sweet Poison’ – the band’s first new music in four years – 2022 is looking good for the Aussie thrashers.

So what of the new single – a six and three-quarter minute sonic assault of melodic thrash metal.

Four years ago I described (the band’s second album) ‘Redemption’ as “perfection”, and I have to say, ‘Sweet Poison’ deserves the same accolade as well. Lyrically, the new single details how damaging substance abuse can be.

Musically, ‘Sweet Poison’ is a thundering slab of thrash come traditional heavy metal – fast-paced, fiery, and immensely melodious. If this is the sound of things to come, it’s gonna be an agonizing yet anticipation-filled wait for a new album – but a wait well worth waiting for.

PURENVY is primed and ready to assault the East Coast of Australia throughout 2022 with shows and festival appearances already lined up – including a return to Melbourne’s Thrashfest (in December).

Overall, a fast and fiery romp of melodic thrash metal, PURENVY is back! And back with an absolute beauty!
