Automb – Chaosphy (Album Review)

Automb - Chaosphy

I have a friend that hates intros to albums, but I reckon they set the scene, and this one so eerie that it just wets the musical pallet enough for us to become interested and prepared for it. The onslaught that follows is nothing short of an extreme exploration of how dark music can be. If you’re a fan of a merge between the low-fi origins of black metal, and the recording quality that a streaming service like Spotify can provide, then Automb’s release Chaosphy is for you.

I have to start by saying, those blast beats, man, fantastic. I guess what else can you expect with Scott Fuller at the throne? Vocally Danielle Evans kills it. Deep, dark and damn strong. In the past, I might find a fault in a continuation of a similar vocal tone, but for whatever reason, it works really well in this release, I wouldn’t want to see anything else added.

I love the chaotic melodies of the guitars provided by Streltsov, but I’m always a fan of a bit of melodic with my death. The recording in general is like a slightly polished version of a low fi black metal band from the 90s.

There is no disappointment in it and it sits well in the background while one stirs in yet more enhanced cat whiskers into their cauldron. The best way to see this release is that it is just straight beautiful chaos.

We have seen this sort of exploration before, but in this release, it is expertly done.
