Revoid – Evergrey (EP Review)

Revoid - Evergrey

Two years after a fierce debut, Revoid returned to the alt-music scene with the killer sophomore ep Evergrey!

Firing off the album is Everything. Opening with a steadily increasing drum beat, it’s an almost vulnerable offering from the band, with the balance of clean and gritty vocals creating a powerful and emotional opening. Visionary takes a darker approach, heavier and angrier with Dudeson using primarily screaming vocals, the relentless rhythm of the firing drums riles up the energy into a cathartic headbanging track.

Let You In is haunting with a combination soft guitar melodies and deep lyrics of inner torment that grow into heavier metal riffs, a perfect blend that represents the suffering of the voice. Diving headfirst back with ferocious intensity, Euphoria is a glorious change of pace with extreme face melting heaviness from the growling distorted guitars, a stark contrast to its name.

Nevermind features layered vocals and electronic keyboard elements alongside an echo effect and absence of instruments towards the middle of the track that creates an interesting dimension in the song that’s almost futuristic. The final track, Fray, plays into the apocalyptic cinematic theme of the album, the song is a journey of its own with different tempos and volumes coming together to create the perfect closure.

Overall, Evergrey is an awesome addition to the alt-music scene placing Revoid up there as one of the bands to watch!
