Indica – Shine (Album Review)

Indica - Shine

First thing first if you are looking for a metal release then look elsewhere because metal certainly is not. I’m not 100% certain what to make of this release exactly… there are some good melodies on here that will get your foot tapping at the very least without you realizing it. The style is a dreamy kind of mellow pop with heavy rock influences coming through on only one or two songs. I think their target audience is most likely to be the tween scene who are still listening to Justin Bieber and have yet to discover what music exists beyond what is spoon-fed to them by commercial FM radio stations.

If this was a release by a major record label from the States I’m sure it would be all over the radio & being repeated ad-nauseum by Video Hits every Saturday & Sunday morning. As it is being from Finland, I doubt they will get much radio play outside of their homeland.

If you do have kids who do listen to Justin Bieber or any other similar pop artists you might want to hand this over to them so they can enjoy it. As it is I’m uncertain if anyone over the age of 16 will think this is brilliant. The production is very polished and any guitars that are on here are far in the background. The keys are very much the focus on here. The lyrics at times seem a little bit simple but given that English is not their first language you can understand why this is.

I have to say again I really don’t know what to make of this release. It’s not bad but it’s not really up my alley even though I have caught myself singing along to the many a pop tune when it comes on the radio without realising it (come on don’t tell me you haven’t also). The songs are well crafted and executed and their target audience I’m sure will love this release.

If you are a hardcore metal fan stay away from this album at all costs. If you do have kids & you have found yourself singing along to their songs choices give it a go and see what you think.
