Taliesin - Faceless

Canberra progressive metal veterans Taliesin have just released their new album FACELESS. In true prog fashion FACELESS is a concept album, which interestingly was recorded in 2014/15 however due to a series of unfortunate events was not released until April 2022. Taliesin is Dave Howe (vocals), Richard Moseley (guitar, keyboards, and vocals), Reuben Durham (guitar, keyboards, and vocals), Chris Turk (bass and vocals), and Wayne Bateup (drums).

FACELESS is music from another time. Music from when songwriting, and musicianship were more important than mindless riffs in an attempt to get airtime. It’s a trip down memory lane with influences from Rush, Pink Floyd, and Dream Theatre. There are classic “lighter in the air” moments which will have the crowd singing along. It’s a deep, enjoyable album that just feels like it should be played on vinyl.

Faceless Women is my favourite song on the album. The riffs laden intro just really does it for me as it builds to soaring vocals.

This is chilling down the spin worthy.

Not Coming Home is eerily similar Alice In Chains and the guitar intro for My Sleeping Prize is a demonstration of the band’s musical ability. There are all of these cool moments throughout the album which demonstrate that Taliesin has got what it takes to produce a respectable prog metal album.

FACELESS is a great album and I’m sure Taliesin they’re stoked to finally have it out in the wild. Do yourself a favour, pour a glass of your favourite hard liquor, put the album on and just chill. Enjoy and chill.
