The Beautiful Monument face self doubt on haunting new single “Duerme”

The Beautiful Monument

Self doubt and anxiety bubble up to the surface on The Beautiful Monument‘s fierce yet haunting new single, Duerme, out now via Greyscale Records. Yearning for the quiet that sleep brings, Duerme is a vulnerable return for the queens of emo rock, and will be launched live across Australia on RedHook’s ‘Breaking Up With Tour‘ beginning next week.

Translating to sleep in Spanish, Duerme narrates vocalist Lizi McIntosh‘s personal journey with second guessing and uncertainty within music and writing. Where there are encouraging figures in the music community, there are also those who fuel doubts and negativity. The latter creates mental chaos and trauma, to the point where sleep becomes the only relief from churning thoughts and sore distress.

“In my sixteen years of being a part of this community I’ve encountered so many wonderful and encouraging people, but just like all things in life; where there are positives there are always negatives,” tells McIntosh.

“Unfortunately, being a human with emotions, you always tend to fixate on the things that deflate you and it becomes even more crippling when people who are supposed to be on your side doubt the things that you do or create. We’ve had people share unsolicited advice on past projects that has felt more critical than constructive when it came to writing and creating, to the point I genuinely started to consider if I should even continue if they didn’t believe we were capable. Believe it or not this has inadvertently traumatised me and has made any sort of writing or recording incredibly daunting. In these moments it felt like being asleep was the only time I could switch my brain off. Duerme is definitely something that everyone can relate to on some level, whether it’s schooling, crafting, relationships or whatever it may be. It sucks and it’s an extremely difficult mindset to try and move on from, no matter how many people tell you otherwise.”

Honing their craft with honest lyricism and powerful delivery, The Beautiful Monument have paved a reputation for not just making music, but crafting anthems for anyone who has ever felt beautifully broken. The quartet— Lizi McIntosh [vocals], Amy McIntosh [bass], Alex Manhire [guitar] and Adam Pinzone [drums]— shine in a live environment, connecting with fans and winning over strangers with their sonic cocktail of pop-rock, alt, and metalcore with a twist of raw emotion. Diving deep into life’s messy bits—mental health, love gone wrong, and all the feels— their live shows are like a cathartic group hug, but much louder.

The Beautiful Monument will play main support to RedHook on the ‘Breaking Up With Tour’ beginning next week in Canberra. The tour will visit Canberra, Jindabyne, Perth, Melbourne, Adelaide, Newcastle, Sydney and Brisbane through September, opened by Eat Your Heart Out and Patient Sixty-Seven.

The band made waves last August when they played main support for legendary gothic rockers Evanescence (US), taking centre stage in arenas across the country. In addition, they’ve toured Australia and played alongside the likes of alternative heavyweights Escape The Fate (US), Sleeping With Sirens (US), Short Stack and more as well as making coveted appearances at Good Things Festival, Download Festival, Unify Gathering, Unify Off The Record and CVLTFEST among others.
