South Australian metalcore outfit, The Daily Chase return after a couple of years in the making with their latest single, “Lotusland“, the first from forthcoming EP, ‘The Colour of Crisis‘, to be released Friday April 8.

“Lotusland” is the first taste of ‘The Colour of Crisis’ and teases a sound influenced by drum and bass that builds on the metal foundations The Daily Chase have previously laid down. Narritively, “Lotusland” portrays a narcissistic character that is psychotically absorbed within his own world, who truly believes he is above everyone. “The character that exists within Lotusland is living in a world where he is the king and everything revolves around him,” Explains the band.

“Meanwhile he is ignorant to the fact that he is still held down by the restraints of gravity and mortality. He flips between a state of ecstasy, which is the sanctuary within his mind, and the real world outside, which is a much darker place.”

An intensely surreal music video accompanies “Lotusland”, shot, directed and edited by The Daily Chase resident videographer, Ben Heidrich with visual FX by Rahj Jordan, both of Headstrong Films. The video exclusively premiered via The Music on Tuesday, showcasing an exploration of the lyrical theme through the values of modern technology and the metaverse. The band explain the concept, “The human race is sold a product promising a better way of living, a new world away from the ordinary reality. A place where you can become anyone you want to be, the king of your own world.”

Mixed, mastered and produced by Windwaker’s Chris Lalic, ‘The Colour of Crisis’ EP is ultimately about finding the deepest darkest parts of yourself and challenging your own thoughts. The band outlines, “The Colour of Crisis is about looking within and battling your personal issues and beliefs, building a new version of yourself and fighting your own mental battle to break away from your personal crisis. The Colour of Crisis is about the way you choose to view the world around you and how this affects the people in your life.”

The Daily Chase is a five-piece metal outfit from Adelaide comprised of vocalist Rory Cuthell, clean vocalist and guitarist Marc Patterson, drummer Ben Heidrich, guitarist Jake McDonald and bassist Nic Wilks. Since their formation in 2015, the band has played countless shows across the nation and shared the stage with the likes of Escape The Fate, Make Them Suffer, Deez Nuts, Saviour, Confession, Dream On Dreamer and Turnover. The bands music has also been featured in Gold Medal X Games athlete Jackson Strong’s feature film ‘Headstrong 2’.

Having worked tirelessly over the last couple of years, the global pandemic brought time and space to the band in order to bring together their most exciting and innovative work yet. ‘The Colour of Crisis’ delves into intense sonic landscapes and experiments with genre bending hooks while still keeping the raw energy and heart of The Daily Chase.

With the brand new six track EP in their arsenal, The Daily Chase are ready to take 2022 by the horns and hit the stage with a plethora of new sounds and an exciting, modernised performance to boot.

“Lotusland” is available now, streaming on all platforms. ‘The Colour of Crisis’ will be available Friday April 8.
