After 5 years of wait, lead honcho Nergal’s battle with Leukemia and producer issues, Polish blackened death gods Behemoth have released the long-awaited album “The Satanist” with all the fire and brutality they are renowned for.

This album is “EVIL” to put in kind words, understandably after the pre-production dramas and they’ve let some anger out on all the god-fearing folk out there.
In typical Behemoth rage, the album is littered with Inferno’s super-fast blast beats, finger bleeding rhythm section and Nergal’s vocals are just head and shoulders above past releases; although the album does contain atmospheric synth work and spoken word (I wish I spoke Polish!), it adds the extra to this album, almost making it even scarier from the in your face war for which they usually bring.
The opening track “Blow Your Trumpets Gabriel” is a fantastic opener, it has received a huge amount of airplay and they’ve released a wild video for it also which is a must-watch. This track gives you an insight as to what you’ll receive and sets up the album for a tale of evil versus – good with a bit more evil thrown in for good measure and a journey through the mind of Nergal for what must have been a horrifying few years previous before this release.

All nine tracks have a similar feel to them, pure death, lyrically brilliant, and the writing and adding of orchestral pieces intertwined through the songs makes you wonder how the band managed to design such a concise and masterful release with dealing with the near-death of their frontman, but I guess that’s what makes them one of the most respected band’s on the scene.
All in all, The Satanist is this Polish trio stamp back on the Death Metal scene where they have been missing for 5 years, and this much-anticipated album has said to the metal community that Behemoth has always and always will be a force to be reckoned with within it.
