Thy Despair – The Song of Desolation (Album Review)

The Ukrainian dark symphonic metal 6 piece brings their first full-length album to the fore. Radio GARTA will premiere the release of their aptly titled The Song of Desolation on Mon 4th May and world release via Rockshots Records (Italy) Fri 8th May. Drawing inspiration from the war in Ukraine and the enslavement of man.

Existing since 2006 & consisting of Elin (vox), Phil (growl/guitar), Strike (guitar), Navka (keys), Anton (bass), Alex (drums), the dynamics of both operatic feminine vocals against the masculine growls reflects the balance and difference of this human existence.

Tracks :
1. The Free One
2. Sabbath
3. Fear and Despair
4. Burned by Love
5. Last Breath
6. War
7. Army of Dead
8. Falling Star
9. Ghost Rider
10. Falcon

The entire album definitely describes the title and takes us on a journey of loss and desolation. The beginning throes of Burned by Love I enjoyed and the beats throughout War is reminiscent of the drums of war. The growl and breakdown within Army of Dead were enjoyable, reflecting the heavier side to Thy Despair’s music. Ghost Rider demonstrates the range of Elin’s vocals, with the stark contrast of Phils growls, with an impressive finale. If you enjoy your operatic/symphonic metal this is an album to add to your playlist.
