Vanquished – DOG A BONE (EP Review)

Release Date: August 11th 2023 - Independent

vanquished-dog a bone

Sydney Three Piece Vanquished is pure pub rock with tough sensibilities.  Dog a Bone is their debut EP that captures their rugged sound, offering a style they call Baditude that is reflected by their live sound perfected by many gigs and some great riffs.

From the title track that personifies a Motoerhead-esque double kicks to the Rose Tattoo swagger, they are not an act to be messed with. The time changes are sharp and powerful. Speaking of swagger, Pain is full of it with real early Crue chaotic riffing and a sense of urgency. It’s not all fury, though ‘’Wasted ‘’ Is a more laid-back subtle offering that offers a more modern maturity. Its vocal lines are clean and memorable, with some great drumming, yet the solos are a little too loud in the mix. It builds into a great crescendo that you can imagine yourself nodding to at the Lewisham Hotel or the Lansdowne. ‘’Burn’’ moves with that 12-bar groove that is designed to get you moving.

Best enjoyed with a beer in hand and a smokey back room Vanquished continues the great tradition of tough, live, infectious Australian music that is unapologetic, impactful, sharp, and true to itself.
