Hidden Intent – Walking Through Hell (Album Review)

Hidden Intent - Walking Through Hell

Hidden Intent is a Thrash Metal band from Adelaide SA. Hidden Intent rose from the depths of the City of Churches in early 2011 with bassist/vocalist Chris McEwen, lead guitarist Phil Bennett, and drummer Jay Rahaley. In such a short time, Hidden Intent has achieved some good success by headlining the Bangkok Thrash Festival and releasing their debut album “Walking Through Hell” in 2013.

Hidden Intent has described themselves as Thrash and their debut album shows that they are true to form. They are bringing in their own influences to complete their own sound. Hidden Intent start their album off with the famous confession line from the movie “American Psycho” and then it thrashes into the title track “Walking Through Hell” which is my stand out track on the album because of a great heavy intro; other stand out tracks are “Betrayed” and “Creature of Habit”.

Hidden Intent uses good drum and guitar fills throughout the album and some of the riffs take me back to Sepultura (Max Cavalera Days).

In a thrash album soloing is a must and Phil does an awesome job with his solos as they are loud, quick, and effective. I also heard some groove elements which is good as they are trying to mix it up. The bass is heavy in this album and it’s one of my favorite aspects. Chris does some good bass solos and drumming is quick, tight, and brings the mixture into full swing. The vocals are very good and I cannot pinpoint who the vocals remind me of; Chris does have a unique sound, vocals sound like a mixture of 80s and 90s singers, high pitched vocal sounds.

Overall this album is definitely for the thrash lover and is a great debut album. Fans of Megadeth, Slayer, Sepultura, Metallica, etc will love it. Check also out their clip on youtube for Walking Through Hell.
